The brilliant coming of age story of Kya, the local "marsh girl" in a small North Carolina coastal town. The story follows both her past and her present: as a self-sufficient child and as an adult on trial for murder. Owen writes beautifully of love, heartbreak, and terrible loos, all in the backdrop of the marsh. I absolutely adored this book. The story engulfed me from beginning to end. Those who love an entrancing piece of fiction will love this book!
A must-read for teen girls and, perhaps more importantly, boys. Centered on the after-effects of rape, this new graphic novel edition of Anderson's 1999 classic Speak captures high school experience so completely that every reader will find commonalities with Melinda and root for her to find her voice.
A great collection of comforting baked goods, unfussy and just right for fall days.
