Orders

In addition to the books we have in stock, we are happy to order any new book in print and available from our suppliers. We do not sell, and do not take donations or buy, used books. We accept orders through this website or by phone at 703-966-2111. We cannot take orders via text message or social media.

PLEASE NOTE: The displayed in-store availability is maintained as accurately as possible. Inventory changes are uploaded daily. They do NOT happen in real time. Books listed on our website have the following availability statuses:

On Our Shelves Now-This book was on the store shelves the last time inventory was uploaded to the online system. Please wait for a confirmation before coming to collect your order, or call us at 703-966-2111 if you need it right away.

Available to order-This book is not in the store, but is in stock at our warehouse. Most books arrive within 2-10 days.

Backordered-This book is not currently in our warehouse, but can be ordered and will ship as soon as stocks are replenished.

Coming Soon - Pre-Order Now-Most pre-orders will be available for pickup or delivery on their release date. Shipping from the store may take a few days longer.

Not Yet Published-This book has not yet been published, and release date is over 6 months away.

Not Currently Available, Hard to Find, Out of Print, Unavailable-Scrawl is unable to get this book for you. You may be able to find a copy through Reston's Used Book Shop's search service.


Curbside Pickup, Local Delivery, and Shipping

Books ordered for curbside pickup will be charged and you will receive an email when your order is ready. We’re open for pickup every day from 12-6pm. Please pull up in the curbside spots on Freedom Drive and text the store at 703-966-2111, giving your last name, order number, and car type. If you are on foot, just knock on the door. Paid orders are held for 60 days, after which time they may be donated to local libraries or schools.

Local deliveries go out to Reston & Herndon Monday-Saturday from 4-8 pm. Further addresses in Sterling or Great Falls may take an extra day. The free delivery option will appear after you put in your full delivery address. We will leave a bag on your doorknob or porch. If you live in a secure apartment building we are happy to leave your order at the front desk. For their health, we do not permit our employees to deliver to high-rise units where they have to take elevators. If your building does not have a designated drop-off spot, please choose store pickup.

For orders beyond our local area, we ship within the United States. Regular ground shipping is USPS Mail, Media Rate whenever possible. We also offer Priority Mail and UPS at higher rates. Please note that we don't always have tracking information for Media Mail shipments.


Returns

We are happy to accept exchanges of unread books that were in-store at the time of purchase within 30 days. For a refund, you must have a dated receipt. The following are non-returnable: personalized signed copies, special orders, coloring books, textbooks and test-prep, and independently or self-published books including those from CreateSpace. If you are unsure about an order, please discuss it with staff for an expert recommendation.

Privacy

We do not share personal information including addresses, phone numbers, credit card information and emails of staff, customers, or authors. Scrawl email lists are used only by the bookstore for marketing and order fulfillment and shared only with our email marketing company for the purpose of maintaining our list, and with IndieCommerce (who hosts our website) for the purpose of order fulfillment. We do not share or rent our email list with other groups or companies. We do not share customer buying history, including titles purchased or ordered, except to the exact same customer. Children & spouses are entitled to the same privacy as unrelated customers.

Payment Security

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and Scrawl Books Gift Cards for online payments. We do not share customer information. Once we receive your credit card information, it is NOT accessible from the Internet or by staff for future orders.

Our website uses Authorize.Net, a leading payment gateway since 1996, which provides the latest technology to keep your credit card information safely encrypted on a secure server. The Authorize.Net Payment Gateway adheres to strict industry standards for payment processing, including:

  • 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology for secure Internet Protocol (IP) transactions.
  • Industry leading encryption hardware and software methods and security protocols to protect customer information.
  • Compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
